A Personal Review Of The Breitling Shadow Flyback

I bought my Replica Breitling watches about 7 years ago and wear it nearly everyday. Despite wearing it nearly every day, having gone diving with it, kiteboarded with it, and trekked across Australia, Scandinavia and the Far East, it looks as good today as the day I bought it.

In all honesty I'd never heard of Replica Breitling watches until I went into a store to buy a Tag Heuer - everyone I knew seemed to be wearing a Tag and it seemed like the ideal watch that could be worn both formally and for sport. Anyhow, while I was in the department store looking at the Tag collections, the assistant said, that if I liked Tag, I might also be interested in Breitling.

Well, it was love at first sight. I know not everyone is going to like Breitling watches. While I think they are beautiful, I can understand why some wouldn't like them. They aren't as 'rounded' as others like Tag or Seconda. Although stylish, they have a certain old fashioned, harder-edged style to them. I learned later that most collections of Breitling watches were designed over 50 years ago and, despite some changes to the movements and minor aesthetic modifications, they are pretty much the same wristwatch as they were 50 years ago.

The Shadow Flyback I bought features an ETA 2892-A2 mechanical movement. The movement is a chronograph, is automatic and has a flyback complication. Most stopwatch second hands can be stopped and then set to zero; with a flyback complication the second hand can be reset to zero without stopping the timer - it continues to run from the zero position. The power reserve of the movement is 42 hours.

Like all watches in the Breitling Windrider collection, the bezel is raised and is unidirectional - it's not a diver's watch where the bezel is one-directional. However, the watch is water resistant to 100mm - I've been diving with this watch to a depth of 20 meters so I can vouch for its water tightness.

Although the dial comes in a few colors, the one I purchased is of a very dark blue which looks black unless seen in sun light. There are 3 subdials; second hand, 10 minute interval and 3 hour interval. The subdials are the same color as the dial and are set in a tri compax configuration, which means they are placed at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock position. The date aperture is found between the 4 and 5 hour marker. I like this layout as it's the more unusual in the Windrider collection; most other watches come with subdials at the 6, 9 and 12 o'clock position with the date aperture at the 3 hour marker.

The hour markers are just that; there are no numerals, which gives it a very sophisticated look, I think. The markers along with the hour and minute hand are luminous as is the tip of the stopwatch second hand. Incidentally, the stopwatch second hand is nicely counterbalanced with the Breitling 'B' logo.

Finally, this Replica Breitling watches is available in stainless steel, 18k gold or two-tone. Mine is stainless steel (the best finish) and comes with one of the best watch straps you can possibly buy, the Pilot strap; the slightly diagonal, chunky rectangular links really are very attractive.

As I've said I've had the Shadow Flyback for 7 years and apart from some minor scratches on the clasp there isn't a mark on it. Since, buying it I've become a huge fan of Breitling watches and it's my intention, when I save enough money, to buy the Navitimer Comsonaute - another beautiful timepiece.

The Breitling Windrider Watch - A Review Of Current Models

The Replica Breitling Watches - Windrider collection was formerly the Chronoliner and Nightflight collections that have now been amalgamated into this collection. There are quite a few models to choose from including men's and ladies' watches as well as automatic mechanical and quartz movements. Here's a quick run-down of various watches on offer.

I've been a huge fan of Breitling watches for many years. I stumbled across them after I'd made up my mind to buy a Tag Heuer watch and went into a store buy one. A very knowledgeable store assistant asked me to take a look at Breitling as well. After quickly comparing both watches I just fell in love with the slightly classic look and robust lines of the Breitling watch. I bought one and have loved wearing it ever since; it looks just as good as when I wear it with a business suit or when I'm relaxing in the garden in shorts and tee-shirt.

Most watches in the Windrider collection characterized by a dome shaped crown and bezel with rider tabs (small rectangular, raised tabs mounted on the bezel at the 3,6,9, and 12 position). The collection contains the Chronomat Evolution, which was previously just called the Chronomat and is the best-selling Breitling watch.

Unlike the Navitimer collection, which by necessity of the slide rule, is on the large size, the sizes of the watches in the Windrider collection vary from smallish to large and the collection features some nice ladies' watches.

Most of the watches have automatic, mechanical movements, however some, especially the ladies' watches, have a quartz movement - I've been told that making complicated mechanical movements small enough for a ladies watch is very hard and would make the price of a watch extremely expensive.

The Chronomat Evolution is the flagship watch of Replica Breitling Watches and is its number one best seller. It was originally created to equip the famous Frecce Tricolori flight team of the Italian airforce. Over the years the watch has evolved aesthetically and technically. Some would arguethat the currunt Evolution watch is the most accomplished to date. The present design has beenin production since 2005. Like most watches in the collection, it has 3 subdials; second hand, 10 minute interval and 3 hour interval. The dials are placed at the 6, 9 and 12 o'clock positions. The mechanical movement is the ETA Valjoux 7750. The casing diameter is 43.7mm and is 17.1mm thick.

The Chronomat Blackbird has a brushed finish unlike the polished finish of the other Chronomat watches. The matte black dial is also in contrast the typical gloss dials of this collection. All this gives the watch a very understated appearance. The casing diameter is 39.8mm with a thickness of 14.8mm. The movement and dial placement is the same as the Evolution.

The Crosswind is a more lavish affair, with an elaborate raised dial face complete with Roman numerals; the numerals and the six hands are luminous. Some versions come with diamonds mounted on the bezel. Again, dial placement and movement are the same as the Evolution.

The Callistino is a Breitling ladies watch. It features a quartz movement and diamonds mounted on the dial face at the hour markers. The casing diameter is 29mm and is 10.6mm thick. The Callisto is another ladies watch. Its main point of interest is the absence of subdials, thought the date aperture remains at the 3 o'clock position. Again, it features a quartz movement. For those wanting a mechanical movement, the Chrono Callisto should fit the bill. The movement is a Lemania 1873. However, this movement is not automatic. The mechanical movement also makes this ladies watch a little larger; the casing is 35mm wide. There are 3 subdials.

Finally, my favorite Replica Breitling watches, the Windrider Shadow Flyback - it's the model I bought instead of the Tag Heuer. It has an ETA 2892-A2 movement featuring chronograph and a flyback feature (stop watch secondhand return to zero). The subdials are what as known as a tri compax configuration - positioned at the 3, 6 and 9 o'clock position. What I also like is that the date aperture appears between 4 and 5 o'clock.

A Review Of The Breitling Navitimer Watch

Many watch manufacturers market their timepieces as 'aviators' watches' but very few of them would be bought by any aircrew for the purpose of aeronautical calculations. They are 'designer' pieces and lack the functionality a real aviator would look for in a watch. However, the Breitling Navitimer is a genuine aviators' watch.

Replica Breitling Watches have had a long historical association with the air industry, both military and civilian. When Breitling was first established its main business concern was making precise counters for both scientific and industrial use. Its specialized knowledge of making precision timepieces made it a watchmaker that would be in demand from the then, fledging aviation industry. The relationship between aviation and Breitling watches was officially established when, in 1936, the British Royal Air Force issued Breitling watches to its aircrews.

The Breitling Navitimer is now over 50 years old and is an iconic timepiece. Its design and functionality have changed remarkably little over the years. This chronograph watch can be used to calculate air speed, fuel consumption, rates of descent and the conversion of standard miles into nautical miles amongst other things - all by using the circular slide rule found on the side of the bezel.

The legendary Breitling Navitimer Cosmonaute is still manufactured today and is almost identical in terms of movement and styling as it was when it was first made in 1963 for the American astronaut Lt Cmdr Scott Carpenter. He wanted a Navitimer but, because one couldn't tell if it was day or night in space, he wanted a 24 hour version. Incidentally, this was the first Breitling (and perhaps only model) that went into Space.

Each Replica Breitling Watches - Cosmonaute watch has a self winding, mechanical movement with a power reserve of 42 hours (approx.) There are a total of 38 jewels running at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The chronograph function has 1/5 second, 30 minutes, 12 hours and fly-back. The case diameter is a minimum 41.5mm and is available in steel, two-tone (steel and gold), 18k gold or rose gold. The crystal is cambered sapphire that is anti-reflective on both sides.

Other, current Navitimer models include the original Navitimer, Navitimer World, Montbrillant, Montbrillant Olympus, Montbrillant Datora and Chrono-Matic.

The World is the largest in the Navitimer collection (case diameter of 46mm), being 10% larger than the original. It consists of 25 jewels and a 2 time-zone, self-winding mechanical movement. The case is available in steel, 18k gold or red gold.

The Navitimer Montbrillant collection owes its name from the original location of the Breitling watch factory. It was on this site that the 'return-to-zero' movement and the circular slide-rule were first designed and manufactured. To commemorate, these watches are little more ornate; hands and hour markers are embellished in gold.

The Chrono-Matic Breitling watch was first developed in 1969 - Breitling created the Caliber II, the World's for self-winding chronograph movement. The watch was easily distinguishable by the placement of the crown on the left-hand-side of the casing. These watches still place the crown of the left-side. The movement has 38 jewels and each watch has a case diameter of 44mm which is available in either steel or 18k gold.

While modern technology has done away with the need for mechanical aviation watches there are those who still appreciate the sophisticated movements of these watches but for those that do, the Navitimer watch from Breitling will definitely appeal.
